Dream Snow by Eric Carle is a great story to connect with a Christmas or winter theme without being too Christmassy. It tells the tale of a farmer who falls asleep and dreams of snow falling and covering each of his animals like blankets. Guess what he discovers when he wakes up?!
This story helps consolidate counting and numbers, farm animals, weather and clothes vocabulary. It also ties in nicely with the idea of gift giving and making things look different.
